Family Department - Collaborative Law
Couples in Wiltshire are being offered a new way to divorce. Solicitor Nigel Godsiffe is helping to pioneer a revolutionary approach which reduces the emotional cost on couples and their children when families split.
Instead of dealing through solicitors, the new approach, called collaborative law, involves couples working with their solicitors, all together in the same room, to reach agreement without the need for costly and stressful court battles.
“Sadly, family breakdown is a fact of life,” explains Resolution member and trained collaborative lawyer Nigel Godsiffe. “Collaborative family law is a new approach designed to manage the divorce process in a dignified manner. The parties agree to work together to resolve children and financial issues without court involvement, in a respectful way for the benefit of the whole family.
It takes a certain kind of couple, and a special kind of lawyer – one who is focused on solutions rather than confrontation – to make it work.”
